It is said that the peak season for surfing in Baler is during the ‘ber’ months where the best waves are brought in by strong winds from the North. I, for one would say that Sabang Beach is not really ideal for swimming because the waves are just going to shove you back to the shore.
As soon as you stepped on the beach, there are plenty of surf instructors offering their services, or if you already know how, there are surf boat rentals.
We were instructed by a group of young surfers; Gandang Alon, as they called themselves. The surfing lesson took 1 hour for PHP 300. Since it was just me and my boyfriend, we each had a 30-minute session.
They will teach you the basics for about 5-10 minutes, depending on how quick you can catch up, and then your off with the waves. Don’t worry, they won’t let you be alone at sea, they’ll still guide you. By the way, our surfing instructor was Carl, and this was the step by step basic guide in surfing.
They'll teach you how you're suppose to lie on a surf board. |
Then, how you can stand up along with the waves. |
The next thing you would do when you got up. |
When you finish the basic training, you're off to the beach and get some actions. |
There maybe some bumps and challenges, but you'll definitely conquer the water. |
It was super fun. If you still want to surf after the lesson, you may rent their surf board for PHP 500 good for the whole day.
Just ride with the waves and Enjoy!
Look at me, getting pretty excited to get into the water. |
Do check out my other Baler Adventures!
